Lino cutting or Lino printing is basically a technique of block printing. It is a very simple technique commonly used in educational institutes like schools. This printing technique is the best way to give an introduction to children about printmaking. Lino Printing was first held by Pablo Picasso in 1950s.
First of all a design is chosen which is to be printed. Then mirror image is shifted to the Lino image block. This is done with the help of a tracing paper or sometimes sketch is directly made to Lino image block. Those areas that are to be designed are carved. The remaining portion is printed. Most of the time this printing technique is done manually but sometimes it can also be done with the help of printing press.
