A challenge I continually face when developing a design for a CMS-based site is that I’m staring a template in the face. The creative side of my brain goes on lockdown as I have to work within the confines of whatever theme my client wants. This dilemma affects more than just WordPress, Joomla or Drupal developers – really do any creatives ever enjoy being thrown into a box and then told to make something beautiful?
The more common Content Management System template frameworks include WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. All have their advantages and strengths, but the general design issues are the same – how do we breath life into this structured system? So to get the creative juices flowing and to break out of this self-made box, I present to you these beautifully designed sites built around the confines of a CMS. Whether it’s switching up the layout a bit, excellent use of design elements, or just tweaking details – these designs made me almost believe that I wasn’t on a CMS-based site.
