But not everyone can afford enought money for an expensive tilt-shift lenses to satisfy this enthusiasts. So in this artile today, we will share some very simple ways to create a tilt-shift photo.
What is Tilt-Shift photography ?
Tilt-shift photography is a genre of photography that makes the objects in the photo look like figures, toys which you can see in the picture below. In theory, Tilt–shift photography is the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene. Tilt-shift from mentioning two different shifting: tilt means rotatio lens and shift is moving lens parallel to the plane of the photo. The rotating lens helps you control the focal plane (plane of focus (POF)) highlight some part of the photo, specifically, the center of the photo will be sharp and clear while the rest will be blurred.
Tilt-Shift photographs appeared in the early 1960s, often by a special lens or adapters. Nikon introduced lens that can provides parallel shift for their SLR 35mm cameras in 1962 and 11 years later, in 1973 Canon has introduced the lens is provided both motion tilt and slide, many manufacturers have been quick to follow the trend.
Canon currently offers 4 types of lens offers both tilt and slide motion while Nikon offers 3 types. This lens type is often used in architectural photography to control and perspective in landscape photography to get sharp panoramic photos.

However, due to tilt-shift lens is very expensive, so you can create your own tilt-shift photos in Photoshop with the following requirements:
- Photo of the scene captured from distant locations with a wide viewing angle.
- Colors need to increase saturation and contrast to looks like the figures.
- Create a shallow DoF with filter blur or lens blur.
