The idea of painting with tape came to the artist Max Zorn when he is running at night on the street. While enjoy the the scenery on a street under the golden color from streetlights, he thought, if he could hold an exhibition in this light, this will be extremely interesting. That was the beginning of Tape Art.
The only material that is used is brown tape strips, overlapping glued on a transparent plastic sheet. Tape is a unique material because it is waterproof, can be used on many type of surface and create interesting effects when the light shines through. Max Zorn uses a small knife to shape drawing, tearing off the excess parts of tape and when he completed, the light will take care of the rest.
His skills completely self-taught, he was not over any art classes.
Max Zorn’s works have classic colors influenced by many styles from ’20s, 30’s of last century artists. The main character and the context of his paintings were mostly taken from films.
