Beauty has always attracted everyone and people stay away from all those things which scare them. But there are some areas for which a This was quite general and when we talk about web designing specifically scaring designs are not only he ones which contains scary images or pictures but also those which contain horrible mistakes and design patterns.
Let me take some examples; ghoulish spelling and grammatical errors will be horrible for any website. Designs which don’t support a mobile platform and gives an eerie message are equally bad for me and should be avoided by designers. Have you heard that bloodcurdling shrieking automatic music that haunts the homepage of a website? That is not what visitors want. If they are intended to have some music then of course they will load other software(s) for the same and will not visit this site.
You may find some designs with animated gifs which should have been buried somewhere as today these ghastly animated gigs are outdated and total no for designs. Never make your website live until the main and most of the content is ready. “Coming soon” page looks like a haunted place bringing disappointment to its visitors.
While doing this research on the scariest website designs I found some examples which I believe should not be followed by designers no matter what, how scary they look. Here is a list of some of the scariest website designs not to follow by designers. Take a look and you will understand what I mean by a bad scary design. Of course, you may like some as everyone has their own preferences but I am sure in most of these you will be able to see the glitches I was talking about.
I understand this list is not exhaustive and you will find many more designs which can fall under this category. But by now you must have realized that the designs can be made scary by number of ways but the horror needed for Halloween, horror movie and other scary subject websites should be crafted skillfully. Designers should design like they make their web designs scary but readers should not be dragged away. These sites must be interesting and worth sticking around only then visitors will stay for long which should be the sole purpose of any design.
Keeping the mood intact is necessary but lot of web mistakes should not be allowed. As I said before animated gifs can be avoided though are used to make some real nice movie effect but can be used to sabotage the total effect. Flashing, blinking and spinning things attracts but what is more important is they should encourage the visitors to visit again and again.
